U2 Were Biggest-Grossing Act in Pop Last Year
Rock superstars U2 were the biggest-grossing act in pop last year. The Dublin group’s marathon Popmart tour took in a staggering pounds 78 million in 1997.
The quartet beat off stiff competition from tours by Garth Brooks, Michael Jackson and The RollingStones to set the new record.
Insiders say the group will make a huge profit from the tour, which kicks off again in South Americanext week, due to centralising the promotion through Canadian promoter Michael Cohn.
