According to several reports, including a notice on the Amsterdam Arena web site, U2’s long-rumored summer tour is not going to happen. The press release (in Dutch) can be read at the Arena’s web site. Based on previous rumors and reports, the first two shows of the tour were to take place at Amsterdam Arena.

Here’s an English translation of the relevant material (thanks to RVD):

“This morning, we were informed by our regular promoter Mojo Concerts, of the fact that the two planned concerts on July 19th and 20th will not go ahead. The reason given by Mojo for this disappointing news is that the band decided not to go on tour this summer. After their concerts in the US, they conclude Elevation Tour and take the opportunity to have a long vacation.”
