Bono on Oprah

Singer Bono has gone on the Oprah Winfrey talk show in his latest bid to force America to alleviate the Third World’s poverty -
but was so nervous about his appearance he was physically sick.

The U2 star taped the hour-long appearance on Winfrey’s daytime TV show after making a guest appearance on stage with the
Rolling Stones in Chicago - and he’s determined to use the show to help him repeat his message about world debt and how the
U.S. needs to help struggling African countries, suffering from financial and health crises.

On the show, which airs this Friday, Bono says he needs voters to pressure the government to dedicate more funds to the cause.

Bono addressed the fact that the Oprah Winfrey Show represents the largest audience of 25-50-year-old women that can be
addressed at one time.

But he admits appearing on Oprah’s couch was one of the most nervous experiences of his life - as fans will see as he nibbles
at his thumb.

He says, “I was very nervous about being there, I vomited backstage before the show began.”

During the show, comedian Chris Tucker was beamed in via satellite to discuss his travels to Africa with Bono and U.S. Treasury
Secretary Paul O’Neill was also shown via satellite to speak about his experience with Bono and the cause.

As a thank you for letting him talk about his favourite cause, Bono presented Oprah with his trademark blue sunglasses.
