Irish rock band U2 headed the entertainment line-up at last night’s reopening of the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.
Performances by The Goo Goo Dolls and Green Day added to the hype.
It wasn’t the first performance for U2 at a football game in the Superdome.
The band played during the 2002 Super Bowl half-time show to commemorate the victims of the September 11 attacks.
The band’s guitarist, The Edge, has worked to help the city’s musicians since Katrina struck.
He is one of the founding members of Music Rising, a charity launched to provide replacement instruments to more than 2,000 musicians who lost theirs in the flooding.
As rock bands blasted and tailgate parties served up barbecue and beer, thousands of people poured into the streets last night, hoping to forget about Hurricane Katrina during a Mardi Gras-like celebration of the New Orleans Saints’ first home pro football game since the storm.
The Saints wrapped up a 23-3 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
