The stage is set at Mount Smart Stadium for Irish rockers U2, who play two concerts in Auckland on Friday and Saturday night.

700 tonnes of equipment and the band themselves are in the country ready to rock the socks off 40,000 U2 fans this weekend after two weeks in Australia, 400,000 tickets and an extra $50M in the bank.

U2 tours are money making hits, and while their two Auckland concerts will not take anywhere near that much, there is plenty of excitement in the air.

It is believed the band are staying in the 5-star Hyatt hotel. The hotel will only confirm that some VIP guests have checked in, but its understood that Bono and the boys will be occupying one of their $750-a-night suites

The Vertigo show is the most technologically advanced gig the band have ever played in their 30 years together and while most set lists are kept secret, there is one song concert-goers can expect to hear.

"The only thing they’ve had to do in the last couple of weeks is re-rehearse One Tree Hill, because it would not be possible to play Auckland without that song in the show," says
