U2 wows Sydney in the rain

Irish Rock band U2 brought music and rain back to Sydney last night when they took to the stage before 70,000 screaming fans.

Loyal fans have been holding onto their tickets since the tour was postponed in March.

They were not disappointed as Bono’s voice pierced the rain clouds overhead.

Long-time fan and fellow Dubliner Barry Wafer said it was the best concert he has ever seen and the band went to great lengths to involve the audience.

"U2 proved that they are by far the number one band in the world," he said.

The highlight for Mr Wafer was when Bono sang "Walk On’, in memory of his father late father Bob, who died a week before the tour opened in Ireland.

A projected screen showed an image of his father walking as Bono made his own walk around the stadium.

"It was as if they were walking together and the crowd absolutely loved it," said Mr Wafer.

It is a big weekend for music lovers.

U2 take to the stage again tonight.

Kylie Minogue also resumes her Showgirl tour at the Entertainment Centre.
