Bono from U2 holds the award for Global engagement during the "Echo Music Awards" ceremony in Berlin March 25, 2007. The German Phonographic Academy honours artists from all over the world in 24 categories.

This award was an honorary prize for his global activities, especially fighting poverty.

For the fifth straight year the African Well Fund is holding a fundraising drive to raise money in honor of Bono’s birthday. All donations will be used to fund water projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Schenectady, NY (PRWEB) March 22, 2007 — The African Well Fund is excited to announce the 5th Annual Build a Well for Bono’s Birthday fundraising drive. The fundraiser aims to raise money in honor of Bono’s May 10th birthday that will be used by AWF partner Africare to fund water projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. Donations for the drive will be collected from March 22nd to May 11th.

U2 fans and others inspired by Bono’s tireless activism on behalf of Africa are invited to make a donation in his honor. Donations from the four previous fundraisers totaled more than $80,000 and were used to fund water projects in Angola, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Donations may be made by visiting www.africanwellfund.org/donate.html. As in previous years, contributors are invited to sign our online card and leave a birthday wish for Bono after donating. The messages, along with a "Well Share" certificate for the amount donated, will be delivered to Bono via Principle Management at the conclusion of the fundraiser.

Australian promoter claims he had to pay Terry Wilson’s bill. Tony Wall reports. A U2 CONCERT promoter believes a businessman who was grilled in the High Court last week can explain what happened to almost $1 million of profits from the Irish supergroup’s New Zealand shows.

Businessman Terry Wilson was subpoenaed to appear in the Auckland court to answer questions from a lawyer for Australian promoter Michael Coppel Presents, which says it is owed about $1m by a corporate hospitality company that hosted 4200 guests at U2′s two Auckland shows in November.

Irish artist KEVIN SHARKEY has turned U2′s court battle with a former stylist into a new art piece.

The Irish rockers took LOLA CASHMAN to court last year (06), claiming she had stolen items from the band while she was working as their style adviser in the 1980s.
The band alleged Cashman took a Stetson hat belonging to frontman BONO, earrings and clothing.
In a ruling in Dublin’s High Court last year (06), a judge decreed Cashman had taken the items without permission and ordered her to pay all resulting legal fees.
But Sharkey, a former Irish TV presenter, has turned the tables in his new artpiece, depicting Cashman as the victim.

He tells the Irish Independent newspaper, "For me, it is much more than just vying for the underdog. Lola was David to U2′s Goliath, she could never win." The painter plans to use some of the money from the sale of his work to help pay off the reportedly bankrupt Cashman’s legal bills.

Rockers U2 are to be the subject of an ambitious new 3-D movie. A new concert movie featuring footage from the Irish supergroup’s most recent South American dates will be the first film to be shot, posted and exhibited entirely in 3-D.

A sneak peek of the untitled film, featuring the group performing SUNDAY, BLOODY SUNDAY, was shown to distributors at the ShoWest Convention in Las Vegas earlier this week (ends16MAR07).

The film will hit 3-D-capable cinemas at the end of 2007.
