PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The National Constitution Center, in partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation and WPVI-TV, will webcast the 2007 Liberty Medal ceremony live on http://www.libertymedal.org, making the event available to a worldwide audience for the first time. The 2007 Liberty Medal will be awarded jointly to Bono, U2 lead singer and activist, and DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa), the advocacy organization he co-founded to combat poverty and disease in Africa, on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the National Constitution Center in Historic Philadelphia.

The winning bidder to develop the planned U2 tower in the Dublin docklands could be named this week.

A spokeswoman for the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA), which is running the competition to develop the tower, said the project was still in the assessment process, but an announcement was expected in ‘‘another week or so’’.

Five bidders have been shortlisted to develop the tower and an adjoining site.

They are Ballymore Properties, which is bidding with U2; the Royal BAM Group, which owns contractor Ascon Rohcon; a joint venture between Treasury Holdings and Sisk; Sean Dunne’s Mountbrook Homes and the River II Partnership.

The DDDA originally said Ballymore was bidding on its own, but it later emerged that U2 was bidding with it. After other bidders raised concerns about U2’s involvement in bidding for the tower that will bear the band’s name, the DDDA’s lawyers A&L Goodbody wrote to them saying ‘‘neither U2 nor its representatives have had any role’’ in setting rules for the contest.

The letter also said that the DDDA would enforce a strict policy on conflicts of interest when assessing the bids. Foster & Partners, Rafael Vinoly and a number of other international architects have been hired by the shortlisted developers to draw up proposals.

The tower itself is expected to look different to the original proposals drawn up by architecture firm BCDH, which was chosen from an architectural competition to design a tower for the site. BCDH’s proposal was declared the winner in 2003, but little progress has been made since then.
