Bono is honored tonight with the Chairman’s Award at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
The Chairman’s Award, chosen by NAACP Board Chairman Julian Bond, is bestowed in recognition of special achievement and distinguished public service.
"Bono has been an inspiration to many people around the world through his music and humanitarian efforts," said Bond. "We are delighted to honor him with this award in recognition of the difference he has made, and to acknowledge his ongoing campaigning to actively engage Americans from all walks of life in the fight against extreme poverty and the global AIDS pandemic."

International activist/rock star Bono is in Oakland today to meet with African-American leaders about their community’s rampant HIV/AIDS problem, a visit the city’s congresswoman hopes will spotlight the disease’s toll.
But if you’re hoping to get a glimpse of him — well, good luck.
The U2 front man — recognized among Time magazine’s 2005 Persons of the Year for his work on issues of debt relief and HIV/AIDS, especially in Africa — will meet behind an East Oakland church’s closed doors at 9a.m. with local service providers and their clients and at 10a.m. with community religious leaders before holding a brief news conference.

BONO, the Corrs and other celebrities gave nightclub king Robbie Fox the VIP treatment as he celebrated his 50th birthday in style.
The celebrations went on into the early hours yesterday at a surprise bash attended by about 150 friends.
The boss of Renards nightclub in Dublin’s South Frederick Street, who is known to patrons simply as Robbie, had been planning to be on the door of his club as usual following Ireland’s rugby victory.

The Dublin Docklands Development Authority has selected a shortlist of five companies to develop its U2 Tower
It has selected four Irish parties: Sean Mulryan’s Ballymore Properties, a consortium of Treasury Holdings and Sisk, Sean Dunne’s Mountbrook Homes and the River II partnership. The non-Irish developer on the shortlist is global construction company Royal BAM Group.
The 32-storey tower is located in the Grand Canal Dock area and is named after the Irish rock group because it will have a recording studio in one of the top storeys in the tower. The Docklands Authority will retain ownership of the tower.
