Services turn to Irish rock band’s Scripture-grounded music to help attract young

On Sunday night the front pews of the Lutheran church will be moved to make room for dancing. On the right will stand a band whose lead singer strikingly resembles Bono of U2. And when the opening hymn begins, worshipers will shout the lyrics to the rock song “Pride”:

“In the name of love! What more in the name of love?”

U2 to take part in Global Warming gig?

Filed under: News & Rumors by U2Exiteer Gary No Comments »

From todays Independent newspaper in the UK.

A day of concerts across the globe intended to exceed Live Aid in scale and ambition is to be held this summer to highlight the issue of climate change.

Organisers of the event, scheduled to take place on 7 July, hope to amass a worldwide television audience of two billion people in order to present the message about global warming.

The series of co-ordinated concerts in seven cities - London, Washington DC, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town and Kyoto - is expected to be announced today by the former American vice-president Al Gore, who is now a figurehead of the campaign against climate change.

Promoters of the event, which will be branded "SOS", yesterday promised that the line-up of artists - likely to include U2, Coldplay and the Scissor Sisters - will "dwarf" those amassed for Live Aid and its successor, Live8.

One promoter told the Financial Times that the event was to be modelled on Live Aid and Live8. However, the source said: "The talent involved is just exponentially bigger because the issue itself is bigger. Live Aid was about asking people to stump up money, this about effecting systemic change. The aim is not just to drive awareness but to get people to take action."

Noel vs Bono

Filed under: News & Rumors by U2Exiteer SPun2U No Comments »

Noel Gallagher has launched blistering attacks on Bono and Thom Yorke in a new interview.

The Oasis star accuses the U2 and Radiohead frontmen of using political issues too readily at concerts, when they should concentrate on playing the hits.

Speaking about Bono, Noel ranted to a UK newspaper: "Play ‘One’, shut the f*ck up about Africa."

Meanwhile, moving onto Radiohead, Noel said: "Thom Yorke sat at a piano singing, ‘This is f*cked up’ for half-an-hour. We all know that Mr Yorke. Who wants to sing the news?

"No matter how much you sit there twiddling, going, ‘We’re all doomed,’ at the end of the day people will always want to hear you play ‘Creep’. Get over it."

Oasis will be presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Brit Awards later this month.
