In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the POP album & POPmart we are featuring yet another POPmart concert:
U2 in Sarajevo: reconciliation for a few hours
SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina - What politicians and diplomats have failed to do for years, rock music
might well accomplish Tuesday: end the division of Bosnia, at least for a few hours.
Fans from all over the bitterly divided country flocked to Sarajevo to hear the Irish rock band U2 in concert -
the biggest spectacle the city has seen since the 1984 Winter Olympics.
The concert in the Kosevo Olympic stadium - rebuilt last year after suffering heavy damage during the 3-year
war - has, in its own way, accomplished miracles. About 45,000 people were expected to pack the stadium
for Tuesday night’s concert, which fulfills a pledge made by U2’s lead singer Bono when he spent the first
postwar New Year’s Eve with Sarajevans in December 1995, weeks after the war ended.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Joshua Tree album & Tour we are featuring the following concert:
U2 - Arizona State University Activities Center, Tempe, AZ April 4, 1987 Second night of the Joshua Tree tour
Disc One 1. Stand By Me intro/Where the Streets Have No Name 2. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For 3. Gloria 4. I Will Follow 5. Bullet the Blue Sky 6. Running to Stand Still 7. Exit 8. In God’s Country 9. A Sort of Homecoming
Disc Two 1. Sunday Bloody Sunday 2. Maggie’s Farm 3. Bad 4. October 5. With or Without You (first ever version) 6. New Year’s Day 7. Pride (In the Name of Love) 8. MLK 9. The Unforgettable Fire 10. People Get Ready (cuts/restarts)
One and MLK are dedicated to the late Prime Minister Rabin. Also, Bono mentions Mordechai Vanunu, the man who told the British press Israel’s nuclear secrets. Bono’s father (Bobby Hewson) is in the crowd.
"This beautiful song has a tempo of 96 BPM. So I had to time stretch it to a dance tempo. I stretched it 30%, to 137.5 BPM on my sampler. I used the William Orbit version of the song, because it features Bono’s vocals almost acapella for more than a minute.
"I made a new beat and added percussion. A new bass line and synth-lines were added to. I used filters and delays on some vocal and instrumental parts. Creating a catchy main melody is always the hardest part, so it seems. But I had fun making it, using sampled synth sounds and my MC 505." - DJ SandStorm
Thought we would repost this to the new news blog from the old site, just in case some of you might had missed it..
Well it’s getting close to time for the resumption of the Vertigo Tour in Australia. And you know it’s getting close to time when you start seeing rehearsal audio being floated around the internet. So we have a couple of clips from today’s rehearsal to share with you below.
On the 8th October, BBC Radio 1’s show the Essential Mix broadcast a mix from the Tidy Weekender dance event.
The first set was by DJ/Producer Marcel Woods from Holland.
In it he, included his own remix of Vertigo.
Seeing as we are very kind folk here at U2Exit, we have gone to the trouble of extracting the remix from the set for yourlistening pleasure.
Now this is a full on hard house/trance/techno (call it what you will) remix so it wont be to everyone’s liking. The BPM is high and there is minimal use of the vocal and guitar rift. While this type of dance music is not my fav, I can certainly appreciate what Marcel has done here.
Edith Bowman of BBC Radio 1 broadcast live form the Q Awards on Monday.
Not long after receiving their awards she managed to snatch a quick word with the B-man before he and the band headed off to the airport to fly down under.
Among the things touched on where the new single, not the Green Day colab, and Edge’s dormant homicidal tendencies.
The song is taken from the web feed of the Zane Lowe show today on Radio 1. Not sure which remix this is of the new ones. Probably a shortened form of one of the Jacknife Lee versions. It was mixed in and out with other songs. The volume drop seems to be part of the feed. Tried to fix it up a bit…. - AJ
