Hundreds of U2 fans used their mobile phones to record Bono belting
out their favourite songs at Sydney’s Telstra Stadium over three
concerts ending last night. Little did they know that under planned
changes to copyright laws, they would be committing a criminal
offence, attracting a maximum fine of $6600.
In fact, if the changes are passed by the Australian Senate next
month, police will be able to issue reduced fines on the spot. And
the U2 fan would not even have to know that what they were doing was
illegal.

Their track, the cover of The Skids’ ‘The Saints Are Coming’, was outsold by Westlife’s version of Bette Midler’s ‘The Rose’ – incredibly their fourteenth number one.
Elsewhere in the top ten, All Saints climbed to three with ‘Rock Steady’, Fedde Le Grand’s ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’ slipped to four, while Madonna’s ‘Jump’ entered at nine.
Over in the album chart, Jamiroquai stormed in at number one with his best of ‘High Times – Singles 1992 – 2006’, ahead of Angelis’ eponymous classical album.
Damien Rice charted at four with ‘9’, McFly made the lowly entry at six with ‘Motion in the Ocean’ and Paul Weller’s ‘Hit Parade’ entered at 7.

Irish Rock band U2 brought music and rain back to Sydney last night when they took to the stage before 70,000 screaming fans.
Loyal fans have been holding onto their tickets since the tour was postponed in March.
They were not disappointed as Bono’s voice pierced the rain clouds overhead.
Long-time fan and fellow Dubliner Barry Wafer said it was the best concert he has ever seen and the band went to great lengths to involve the audience.
"U2 proved that they are by far the number one band in the world," he said.
The highlight for Mr Wafer was when Bono sang "Walk On’, in memory of his father late father Bob, who died a week before the tour opened in Ireland.
A projected screen showed an image of his father walking as Bono made his own walk around the stadium.
"It was as if they were walking together and the crowd absolutely loved it," said Mr Wafer.
It is a big weekend for music lovers.
U2 take to the stage again tonight.
Kylie Minogue also resumes her Showgirl tour at the Entertainment Centre.
