Opinion on U2 self-indulgence theme

I'm curious if people think that the glitz, 'self-indulgent' and
'dispensibility' live themes which U2 espoused and embraced disconnects
us from the passion that makes music more tthan just a 'dispensible'
commodity.
Quick sidenote on the J's 'getting personal' charge on my last post, I'm
just following your example but at least I was honest. The transparent
facade has been exposed, your last post deserved an academy award
nomination. A little more subtle after I derailed your overt
inflammatory formula, but you still managed to throw some darts. If a
superior/inferior comparison qualifies as 'derogatory', then I'd be
afraid to ask what you'd term your U2 'lack of musical talent' post a
while back, the attitude/tone of the post said alot more than the actual
content.
Thanks for the bandwith.
