the whole age debate

Wow, I never thought I would actually post something to Wire, least of
all respond to an argument such as is being rendered by the 35 year
old crowd.

What a DUMB argument. Isn't music about emotion? And who is to say
one's emotion is less worthy than another. I could make the argument
to those 35 year olds who have never performed music that since they
can't read music or understand chord changes or know the timing
involved, they couldn't possibly understand music -- or U2, to a
lesser degree. But that is equally foolish.

If we all agree that U2's greatness has much to do with the
TIMELESSNESS of it, then the age argument is moot. For the record,
I'm 27, and the two greatest memories I have of U2 are climbing Mount
Oberon in Australia (in Wilson's Prom) with "Red Hill Mining Town" on
the walkman, or "One" in my first real relationship. Anyone who would
dispute my love and knowledge of the band can go soak their head. Age
has nothing to do with appreciation of U2. The only thing it gives
you is the ability to say you didn't have to go out and retroactively
buy their albums.
