Also, The Pretenders opened a number of shows on the Joshua Tree tour, and
I believe they had a zydeco band led by Queen Ida (?) open for at least
one or two shows in the Southern US on the same tour.

And here in San Francisco, local band Romeo Void opened a number of U2
shows up through the WAR tour (at least); RV's lead singer was Deborah
Iyall, who still does various musical/theatrical/spoken word performances
around the Bay Area.
