Greatest hits...don't want it, but what can we do?

I'm not happy about this..not at all, but its not really because i think
they
are "selling out" , its more because I view this as Stepping Down. By doing
this it seems like they are talking themselves out of the Modern rock scene
and
becoming classic rock. This makes me sad becasue I just got into this band,
and I don't want to see them be classic rock just yet:( I know they have been
around for 20+ years but they really aren't that much older than the modern
rockers of our day like pearl jam and everclear...only about 4 yrs.)
That being said, I will still continue to support and love this band. One
bad doesn't council out all of the good, and although I am failing to see the
logic behind this release, (especially since bono has spoken out again GH all
through popmart...?) I am at least glad that the reports say it will be all
old
material...no singles promoting it, hopefully no huge campaigns.
That being said, my question is what can we do about it? Can we bug
Island or principles...can we send begging letters to the band..i mean what
could we as a fanbase do, or should even do? I've about decided there isn't
much at all. I'm not happy about it, will probably clench my fists when the
album Does finally come around, and prepare my ears for the slaughter that I
feel u2 are asking for regarding this and artistic integrity, and probably
won't buy it...but that wont stop me from being impatient for new material and
probably buying the new album at midnight.
My greatest hope for this fiasco is that the GH are being released as a
wrapping up of an era. I still can see U2 making vital music in ten years,
but I see it more in the bob dylan song tradition. I realize twenty years is
a
long time for a band to be together...but I can't see Bono or the edge hanging
up the guitars just yet. .....I sure hope I'm right....

really hoping this isn't the beginning of the end for my beloved favorite
band,
Megan
