It Should Be 2 Greatest Hits Albums Not 3

Just my opinion but I think it makes sense.

I am not particularly bothered that the band are releasing some GH
packages. Yes like most of you I already have all the tracks that could
possibly be included but I am not averse to the whole idea, but I believe 2
albums would be enough.

A second greatest hits album is unavoidable. When the band eventually
breaks up (hopefully a long time from now) it is obvious that a
retrospective LP will be released. But there is only a need for one other
album.

Someone posted that the first album could be 1980 - 1990 but I would prefer
an album know that covers 1980 - the present day. If the band could release
an album that covers not only the world dominating Joshua Tree era but also
includes track from AB, Zooropa and Pop then previous fans may be brought
back to the fold.

Admit it, we've all bought Best Of albums by artists whose entire output
has been missing from our record collections. There are bands we have all
liked but for one reason or another we have stopped buying their material
only to discover some gems on a greatest hits package and gone out to buy
the albums these tracks first appeared on. We all know that much of U2's
best work has appeared on their last 3 albums but there are many fans who
disappeared over the years oblivious to the superb music they have missed.
After buying a greatest hits album that contained songs such as One, Numb,
Please etc many would rediscover the band and purchase the missing albums
from their collection. Can this be a bad thing?

A greatest hits package that only covered 1980 - 1990 would only keep this
old fans at bay. They would purchase the first installment, leave out the
next and possible by the third by which point it will all be too late.

I understand some of your grievances about the whole greatest hits idea but
if done correctly this could be a blessing in disguise.

Anyone?
