I'm a Christian here, been on this list for a while and I have never
felt 'bashed'...whose bashing us?
I agree if a person has a deeply held belief about
something..homosexualtiy or nudity or whatever and they have made
statements to that effect we shouldn't try to scold them into changing
their minds...it's among other things counter-productive and it just
plain won't work....we can however disagree with them..and should be
able to do so without being bashed or scolded in return.(and I'm not
saying you're doing this..just making a statement)
I'ts interesting what you said about the discouraging songs reflecting
that U2 has in some way fallen short and 'lashing out' at God. Maybe
I'm all alone here but I never felt that way. I thought of those songs
as U2 coming to the realization that God is just not going to answer
certain questions in this lifetime...and that the Christian life is not
all happy happy joy joy all the time.....I never thought they were
'angry at God"...and those songs certainly never weakened by beliefs in
any way...
as for them 'falling short'...that depends upon your own personal
standards and interpretations of course... remember Bono and Co were not
raised as American Fundamentalists or Southern Baptists or whatever..so
their personal standards and intepretations of things Biblical and
spiritual might be a little different from yours. This is in no way a
flame...just an observation that there are different ways of looking at
things.
