>Hey all - Your friendly (depressed ) neighborhood Abe here -
>
>The King is dead ...

Yeah, I heard about Elvis' untimely passing...in 1977.

>I was shocked to find this (GH)Greatest Hits project. Not only a GH project
>but a marketing ploy - ( buy it the first week , get a special collection of
>B-sides - that ,by the by, only you REAL hard core fands will like them
and by
>the by you probably already HAVE them all on your singles ) .

Marketing ploy to you, gift to others. And be careful when applying
adjectives to the word "fan" my friend, it will only bring you grief. What
is a "real hard core" fan after all---by your definition, sounds like it's
someone who has the resources to buy everything he wants whenever he wants
it. Guess what---there are those out here who would love to own everything
but don't have the financial means. Not a whine, just a fact. And we love
U2 just as much as you (used to). Go figure.

>I... don't know what else to say , just that I'm sure I'll buy it as a
>collector's item more than anything , enjoy the little tidbit (reworked
>Sweetest Thing ) for real U2 fans, bur know that it was done to get me to
>spend exorbitant amount of money on my musical heroes...

If you've got it, spend it baby. And now what exactly is "real" U2 fan?

>I've always looked over at a friend of mine who was a huge Beatles fan,
>grasping to his collection of (dead) music.

Oh no. Don't go there man.

>Those CD's sat on a shelf as a
>ghost of the Beatles- what they were - how they made people feel- Knowing
that
>it was over - Lenon was dead. No more - EVER. I watched him scamper for the
>Beatles anthology and felt guilty that all he was hearing was filler between
>the album cuts - not what he was seeking - that NEW tune , that NEW
direction.

You just had to go after the Beatles. Well, thank your lucky stars it
wasn't the Who (hi Jennifer!) If you had listened to the Beatles
anthologies, you would know that they are actually a fascinating glimpse
into the creative process. A way to time travel if you will & experience
the amazing phenomenon that was Lennon & McCartney (and Martin) in the
studio. Filler indeed. (And for the record, it's Lennon, not Lenon.)

>I must admit that I felt afraid for the time that I was rushing out to buy
the
>U2 Anthology - but I told myself that day was FARRRRRR away - but is it here
>??? Has it arrived ?

We should be so lucky. Are you saying that you wouldn't be thrilled with
three double CD sets of multiple never-before-heard versions of the U2
songs we all know & love? And maybe some songs or parts of songs we've
never heard of? Because that's what the Beatles anthologies are dear---you
would know that if you'd listened to them. Oh, I forgot, you don't listen
to "dead" music. By the way, what exactly qualifies as "live" music?

>EDGE - if you are out there - write me and say that you guys will be around
>for 5-10 more years !!! Say you'll leave me with at least 5 more NEW albums
>!!! PLEASE ! PLEASE ! Get me off my knees !!! You'll never know how you make
>us fans feel !

Let the truth be told...this really is Edge, & here is my message to you
Abe. Lighten up dude.
