thoughts on 'Best Of'...

hi,

I was thinking about this the other day...

Is it possible that maybe some of those quotes we've heard in the past about
the guys not planning on doing a greatest hits album were taken out context? I
was thinking about the ones I've actually heard, and I don't actually remember
HEARING them myself. The ones I know of, i believe i read here on Wire. Now,
I'm not saying the people who posted them took them out of context, but maybe
wherever they got the quote from did. you know, Bono could have actually said
something like, "We aren't planning on doing a greatest hits album any time
soon, unless of course we're given $50 million for 3 and at least one nifty B
sides compilation." (yeah, sure, kind of ridiculous but so what...)

another thing i was thinking was maybe this is their response to all those
people who say that the older stuff is better. you know, the people who never
got past Joshua Tree (not that there's anything wrong with that).
it could even be a response to the critics who said Pop stinks. it could be -
you like our older stuff? here it is again... you want us to go back to the
days of the Joshua Tree? well here ya go!!! this is what you want from us? you
got it.
and this one may be pushing it a bit but it could even be- hey, remember this
stuff? you're not gonna see anything like this from us again!! we' ve gone and
dreamt it all up again!!

personally, i'm very happy about this release. especially the B-side
compilation. i don't have a lot of the early singles. we all know how damned
hard it is to find them!
also i know lots of people who would buy it. you know we all like converting
our friends and making them as psychotic as ourselves - this will make it much
easier!!

am i way off? just nuts? tell me what you think Wire!

Brendan
