So I come home today, to see I have a piece of mail. My reponse: "Oh
great, another one of those stupid cards I have to reply to!" I ripped it
open to find our boys on the cover of the magazine catalog. The picture is
the four of them sitting back to back from the AB era. Needless to say I'm
stoked.
For those interested, here's what it says:

Cover:
U2
"Pop" Phenomenons

Inside:

Hard Rock Selection of The Month
U2
Pop Rocks!

Includes the hits Discotheque, Staring at The Sun, Last Night on Earth, and
Please.

Some might say that U2 has (excuse the pun) lost their edge. When they
debuted in the mid-'80s they were all Irish fire and fury, spewing
politically charged rants and donating progits to charity. Now, they spend
millions of dollars creating elaborate, mega-glitter stage shows and
glorify their mainstream success. But "Pop" isn't as simple as the title
might suggest. Under all that glitter you'll find the same band - just a
little more savvy and a lot more musically adventurous.
Take the driving dance hits Discotheque and Last Night on Earth for
example. Pounding drums, infectious guitar riffs and Bono's chameleonic
voice still form the backbone of the songs. They're just tweaked into
various sonic shapes and forms with a few twists of some knobs. The effect
on the sound is exhilirating: ordinary dance tracks are transformed into
razor-sharp rock montages that just happen to have a great beat. And U2
still knows when to tone in down a bit, too. Ballads like the plaintive
Please and the ethereal If God Will Send His Angels showcase straight-ahead
instrumental arrangements, with only the slightest synthetic shimmer.
There are no compromises on the album. If anything, when you take into
account aesthetics, appeal and pure musical wizardry, "Pop" has more to
offer than anything U2's ever done.
The Point is that the songs may change but the band still remains the
same. As pioneers of a rock/techno hybrid, U2 continues to challenge our
concepts of pop music with the same conviction and integrity they've always
had.
