Defense of the Death Knell of U2

Hey all , Abe here to defend against you mindless simps for your sheep-like
tendencies...

1.)'<< I am sick and tired of reading this list and seeing some of you bitch
and moan about what U2 is doing now, or not doing now. >>

Then dont read the list - thats what i did !!

2.) << If youwere true fans you would support the guys in everything they do!
>>

Yeah just like the Democrats and President Clinton !! Can you say that this is
the most mindless statement you've ever heard ?? Baaaaabbaaaabbaaaa... I think
this guy would have followed Hitler...

3.) <<U2 hasbeen around for 20 years and released 10 albums. They have given
us
numerous singles with great B-sides to listen to. They have given us
several videos. And let's not forget all of the memories! Is this not
good enough for you? Do you want U2 to just go to the studio all of the
time and come out with so-so albums, or would you rather them take their
time and create the great music that we are used to? >>

Well.. in a word - no. U2 owes it to themselves and to us the fans, who
believed in them, supported them and made them gazillionaires to keep it
going. U2 has never gone into the studio and made a so-so album- we are
complaining that the GH or Best Of ( Which are the same thing baaa baaaa baaa
) are not CREATIVE ventures. This has nothing to do with creating good music ,
just a corporate sell out. U2 has stated on many occasions that they will not
be controlled by 'the man' like the Beatles were , so obviously any argument
that SOMEONE ELSE wanted the album and forced them to do it , is ridiculous !
U2 WANTED it , and they did it themselves. Quit hiding behind the 'record
companies.... And as for the 'if you were offered 50 million' statement , that
is totally false. What is 50 more million to U2 ? They made 300 million on
tour and are millionaires many times over. What do they care about money when
it comes to their integrity ??? They have always stated that they would not do
this GREATEST HITS album until they were done and they simply broke from that
statement, and yes as a fan I am entitled to be dissapointed in them.

4.)<>

Thanks for joining the list Jesus !!! Or should I call you Himmler ? Baaa baaa
baaa

5.)<< All I ask is that we all be supportive! If I have stepped on some of
your toes, TOUGH! >>

Gay Power ! You go guy !

6.) <<When Bono said "Fuck the past, kiss the future", I don't think he meant
fuck their music!>>

Umm NO. He meant that he was going to continue to press the bounds of music no
matter what everyone else did. He meant that U2 were still evolving from their
beginning...

However, Megan makes a great point about about fans that dont have the money
or tenacity to track down all the B-sides... That is a valid point - UNLESS
you already own all of them... Its cool that she isnt as ticked off as I was
about the GH album, but some of us just want a band to be a champion for music
and creativity amongst the puff-daddy's and Marilyn Manson's of the MTV
generation....

7.) << Its kinda(?!??) selfish of us to want U2 to constantly be slaves to
their die-hard fans. They were given the oppertunity to gain new fans
and serve their more "casual" fans.....kill two birds with one stone.
Theres no way every U2 fan (be they die-hard or casual or even
potential) can be satisfied with every U2 project....and its our turn to
sit back and allow them to do what they have to. Im confident that they
will "return" to service the die-hard fans. I also think that they are
trying to not alienate the die-hards by releasing the B-Sides disc as a
limited edition thing. Think of it as a deposit, a dowry (lol).>>

Yeah , but what if we became fans of theirs BECAUSE of their so called
'integrity' , or the way they act as well as their great music ?? Furthermore,
Id like to define a 'DIE-HARD' fan as already having owning all of these b-
sides in some way shape or form, so actually, the B-sides album isnt appeasing
us... Its a slap in the face after we spend 500 bucks gathering them all
up... I never thought that U2 was out to 'appease' lesser fans... Why should
they ? They don't need to. Unlike the Wallflowers or Puff Daddy or Madonna ,
they do not NEED those fans ( why should they want the MTV fans ? ).

8.) <<There is NO difference between a Greatest Hits album and a Best Of
album.>>

Amen ! Preach it brother Beavis ! Someone with a brain ! Unfortunately bud,
these people think that Clinton never lied about his 'sexual relations' with
Monica either ...

9.) <<You are U2, a record company offers you $50 million dollars for your
signature, and it's not to use your songs in comercials, it's not going to
comprimise your integrity and it'll probably gain you some new fans.
What would you do?
I know, I know, you say: "But U2 are already stinking rich!"
But that's not the point, the point is they got $50 million for doing
nothing.>>

NO, I say "But what about U2's INTEGRITY?!?!?"

Hmm... Should I ?? Should... i ?? Ummm hell yes -

First off, you are implying that U2 is nothing but a LAZY band..."Hey
Edge...should we write new material, or should we do nothing and make a cool
50 mil. Hmmm...I think we should take the 50 million, and STOMP all over the
fans who want us to focus SOLELY on new material" This is akin to Clinton
thinking "Hmmm...should I get a blow job or should't I? The harder choice
would be to NOT give in to tempatations...but I shall choose the path of
instant gratification, and make out like a bandit...and SPIT on the people who
have supported me."

There is no creativity about a Greatest Hits (excuse me..."Best OF"...baaa
baaa baaa) album. "But they can program all the hits into a way that makes it
really creative, " you say. "I can't wait to hear the order of the songs".
The songs have only had ONE true order, and that is the order the songs are on
their original albums. And if you want to hear different orders, that's what
tape players are for.

FACE IT, people...this is a marketing ploy, plain and simple. What does it
say about what the record label thinks of what your band is doing today when
all they are excited about pushing is the past?

Well, for all you people who wanted the Joshua Tree all over again, you
finally got your wish. Looks like U2 is going to scrape that treasure trove
dry, and satisfy all of you who aren't willing to grow with a band, and who
are mindlessly going to accept whatever is dished out. Hooray for you.

Meanwhile, I am going to listen to MY Best of...the U2 catalogue of albums.

9.)<<I'm also sorry it couldn't have been for better reasons. Abe's little
posting from yesterday - the one that included the excerpt from Tre's
message to him, and his subsequent response that he's "sleeping with
[Tre's] mother" - has proved to me that some people, unable to overlook
their personal feelings, would rather use this as an intellectual
frathouse rather than a forum. At the risk of sounding like mother, shame
on both of 'em. While there wasn't any call for Tre to be that hostile
toward Abe, ABe was (in my opinion) violating the house rules when he saw
fit to post what Tre said publically, and fire back at him with the same
medicine.>>

Well Welcome to WIRE, mom. My re-hash of Tre's statement has happened to me
before and will happen again. I was hoping that people with Brains could
understand why I was upset and that Tre represented the majority of the
responses I got from 'WIRE'. I also hoped you could see me mocking Tre , by
using his own language against him, if not , then sorry I offended your tender
sensibilities... Maybe I should be impeached !! Or go to bed without dinner...
I think I may have to re-read the rules here because I don't remember that
rule... No one has ever held back posting MY private mails to wire...

By the way - Are you TRE's Mom ?? If so , thanx... ;)

10.) <<Oh no!! They must be selling out!!!! Give me a
break. Aerosmith released a greatest hits album about 15 years ago. >>

No way you just said that !!! AEROSMITH ??? You're comparing U2 to AEROSMITH?
Im as astounded as Darth Vader when he found out Luke had a twin Sister !! You
know what , Im going to just not say anything about this comment... Everyone
concentrate really hard and hope this guys head explodes !

11.) << Ohhh, I'm sooo S*A*D!!!! I just got to learn how marvelous are October
and
Passengers and it got me into the "I-wish-I-could-hear-this-song-live"
crisis... Ahhhhh!!! I need "I Fall Down" live!!!! And "Fire"... And
"Rejoice"... But since I can't get a time machine (Delorian!!! Oooops,
unintentional flashback from old movie...) or something I just have to spend
some money in boots.... >>

This has nothing to do with the argument - but WHAT THE HELL IS THIS GUY
TALKING ABOUT ????

11.) <<Marketing ploy to you, gift to others. And be careful when applying
adjectives to the word "fan" my friend, it will only bring you grief. What
is a "real hard core" fan after all---by your definition, sounds like it's
someone who has the resources to buy everything he wants whenever he wants
it. Guess what---there are those out here who would love to own everything
but don't have the financial means. >>

First off , get a job hippie. Then you too can buy a CD. Now I know us ' rich
folks' that can buy some CD's seems far off, but its attainable, Im living
proof. BEEEFCAKKKE ! BEEFFFCCAAAKKKE ! Second off here goes - Definition of a
Hard Core Fan - Having penetrated one or many of the members of U2's band.
Also includes Oral Sex - See Lewinsky...

No seriously - A Hard Core fan probably plasters his walls with U2 posters has
everything theyve ever done on VHS , has over 70 U2 CD's , wakes up to them ,
sleeps to them, anticipates everything new they still can do , lives and
breathes the meaning of the band and their messages and still has a
girlfriend. And a job. Unlike you. Hippie.

12.) <<You just had to go after the Beatles. Well, thank your lucky stars it
wasn't the Who (hi Jennifer!) If you had listened to the Beatles
anthologies, you would know that they are actually a fascinating glimpse
into the creative process. A way to time travel if you will & experience
the amazing phenomenon that was Lennon & McCartney (and Martin) in the
studio. Filler indeed. (And for the record, it's Lennon, not Lenon.)>>

You missed the point. I was distressing over the fact that the band was
DEAD...literally. I am fearful of the time that U2 reaches that
point...aren't you? How sad that the Beatles fans will never have anything
NEW or creative from their favorite band...

By the way, the Who sucks. Ooh - look - I went over there ! Woe to me ! Who
are the 'who' anyways ?

Oh and by the way - Thanks Jennifer.. ;) You know what I mean... :P

13.) <<We should be so lucky. Are you saying that you wouldn't be thrilled
with
three double CD sets of multiple never-before-heard versions of the U2
songs we all know & love? And maybe some songs or parts of songs we've
never heard of? Because that's what the Beatles anthologies are dear---you
would know that if you'd listened to them. Oh, I forgot, you don't listen
to "dead" music. >>

Actually I own about every Beatles CD as well as the truly awful 'Star Club
Tapes' (if your a fan , you know what im talking about) I saw the Anthology
for what it was - A grasp at the past - also a lot of unfinished, not
releasable music. Sure it has historical value and its funny, but its not
music, just the creation of it. Do you really need all those takes of 'No
Reply?' Also , in this case , once again , I had heard all of those songs
before - except for the 'Sweetest Thing' like new verisions of 'Real Love' and
'Free as a Bird'... Sound familiar ??

13.) <<Let the truth be told...this really is Edge, & here is my message to
you
Abe. Lighten up dude. >>

Hey Edge ! Im really dissapointed in you , ya sellout ! I burned that
autographed photo you gave me. By the way - you're telling me to lighten up? I
dont think ive ever seen you smile...

By the way - Can I borrow 50 million ?

Hey there- was anyone offended ? I hope so , because if you're steaming mad
right now and itching to write me back and flame me then GOOD ! Thats how I
felt after I wrote a truly SINCERE letter to you so called fans and you all
torched me ! What I wrote was from my heart and I meant no disrespect to
anyone on WIRE or to U2 , just to their poor decision - I was just letting my
true feelings be known - but Tre and a few other people had to use me as their
whipping boy - so here it is right back at you ! Hope it burns long and hard.

FUCK THE WIRE

Its in my past....

Abe

PS - The true meaning of '40' is the 40 million U2 will clear after McGuinnes
gets his cut...
