Guys, of course U2 will probably never be as "in" again as they were
in zoo tv or joshua tree days. Heck, before I became a u2 fan,(Im a
popconvert) I already had regarded them as legends and I hate to say
it...classic rock. The guys are nearing middle age,(although i still
think Larry has drank more than a little from the fountain of youth!)
and although I think this doesn't in anyway damage their desire and
ability to creat great music, it does hurt the way the general public
views them and their capacity to rock and connect to their concerns.
All great groups have their day in the sun...and some have 2, like U2
has thankfully. Like everything, a rock groups life goes in a
cycle...and right now it seems cool to not like u2, although I do find
it odd that alot of the "in " music is made by artists influenced by our
favorite group. What are your opinions on this?
The rumours I have heard regarding the new album seem to hint that the
boys are aiming at a simpler sound and a more lyric based album..if this
is true I can't wait. Don't get me wrong, I loved Pop..I loved what it
was about and I thought the songs really fit the music style. That
being said, I see that album as more of an ending of their electronic
period than a beginning. Progression in music is a great thing, but whn
a group has been around for 20+ years..I yearn to hear a more classic
approach from them. I tend to think of bono as a songwriter in the bob
dylan vein, and considering how awesome I thought some of the lyrics on
pop were, I would really like to hear an album focusing on bono's
lyrical abilities and simplifying the music behind it.

realizing she kind of veered off the original topic..whoops,
Megan
