(was: Re: smoking misconseptions)

There's been a little talk about smoke affecting Bono's voice a few days ago.
A few weeks ago, I was told Bono kicked the habit. This doesn't imply you
won't ever see him smoking, as it could be a part of an image, or just
because it's supposed to give a great feeling. Oh, and yup.. he was in great
shape also.. been working out apparently.

Bono on smoking: "Never trust a man smoking a cigar, you should know that!"

Normally this kind of news doesn't interest me all that much, wasn't that
it's an easy step up to add my opinion on the countless U2-lists on line,
and Wire's place in it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having more lists. No-one has said
such thing directly anyway - Maybe it's the on line version of human's nature
to survive by multiplying themselves. Wire got too big to handle at a
point and sometimes it became a little irrelavant too, so when the technology
became available, it wasn't surprisingly that other lists popped
up. I honeslty believe that those on other lists than Wire, will always
consider Wire as home-base.

I won't actively support other lists' initiatives to distinguish themselves
by way of tags, clothes, smells or whatever, but here too, I don't think
there's anything basically wrong with it, might people decide to do so, as
long there's no rivality between them or if it forces people to exclude each
other. During Popmart, there's been many cases of other groups/lists joining
Wire's activities, so why won't that work in the future also.

Carrying the banner through all (!) continents, making it reach places like
Sarajevo, Belfast, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro.. all the way to Johannesburg
(I think it was there anyway) I consider as an ultimate example of what we,
as united fans from all over the world think of how we're connected to each
other and can mean to each other... it's a simple piece of canvas, yet
sometimes we gave blood, sweat and tears to get it someplace :-)

In this world of black text on glowing screens, the lack of visable and
emotional contact sometimes leads to miscommunication and misperception,
which can lead to fights, pain and sorrow (or flamewars, if you will). For
the banner too, people had disputes and heated arguments, but in the end,
almost all things work out
smoothly and people find peace with each other again, but've to confront and
face the problems and take it on. We're still a family here, folks.. it's all
here, even if some settle on their own.
Eventhough you can't and don't have to like everyone, it's a great thing to
be united, but it's even a greater thing to be united with respecting
differences. Sounds familiar? Well, we'd a good teacher.

Wether you are subscribed to Wire, One, Exit, a friends list or a regional
list, it doesn't matter. They all originated from Wire, and for that, I find
anyone should and does keep in contact with the mothership. White, Black,
Yellow or Orange.. we're all coloured the same inside (wire-red).

Hence I'd like to call this the United Colours of the World Wide Web
