It's just struck me that when you're born in the English language, as most
of you are, and a U2 fan, you must have a real hard time. I mean, how do you
feel when you hear daily words like 'please', 'one', 'lemon', 'numb' and so
on ('you too' and 'you two', of course )? Besides other reasons, U2 are
great because they imposed their vocabulary and even invented new words:
'bullet' as a verb, 'overground', a new meaning for 'slipstream' (other
ideas?). We, non-English speakers, just 'visit' these words from time to
time, and I, for one, always startle.
Anyway, for those of you interested in modern art critics, I've discovered a
very interesting article about U2 and postmodernism - thanks to Modsavage's
quiz! It's called 'U2 Ate America' and it's written in a pre-POP era, but
worth reading it. The author may be a Wireling! The link is
