How the charts work

Hi Wire,

Sorry if this is common knowledge but it came as news to me when I found
out last year. The charts system isn't based on units sold, it is based on
units produced. So if more copies of the "best Of U2" are produced than
anything else that is released at the same time then it will be number one.
If an album is at number one it gets a lot of airplay on radio and video
shows, thus it gets stuck in peoples heads, they start to like it and then
they want to buy it!!! So then more copies are produced to meet the demand
and the album stays at number one and the vicious circle continues.
You don't need fans to get to number one you just need the money to make
enough cds to win.
I'd put my money on Celine Dion to win, Celine Dion plus a christmas
gimmick - how can anyone compete!?! Sad but true.
So I think we should all buy lot's of the best of cd and give it to
everyone you know for Christmas hehe.

Love Claire
