Heck, I even think a case for Red Rocks could be made as U2's "defining
moment". That was my first real exposure to U2, aside from having been
blown away by "I Will Follow". I saw the Red Rocks video on MTV, and was
absolutely spellbound. I'd never seen a live band like that, and it was
really then that I realized that this band was special-- they had
something that set them apart from any other band of the era. The next
day I went to the record store and got "Live at Red Rocks". Many, many
U2 fans became fans from watching that video. Their performance at Live
Aid sure as hell didn't hurt; neither did the release of JT. It's really
hard to put your finger on one "defining moment" for U2; there have been
so many of these I can't possibly think of them!! :-).
