>>The whole thing of following the band around, the hotels and what
not -- it's being a fan, but there also has to be some degree of the
"crush" thing.<<

There is _some_ extent - but it's, by far, (at least in my
experience) not the overwhelming majority. For instance - within my
group of friends that travel together, we *all* have affection for
the band - but there is only one girl who has a genuine, life-
altering *crush* on anyone in the band (Bono). And more than
anything it just adds to the humor of situations because he knows she
has this crush and always makes funny comments about it, like: "This
one here, do you notice she always kissing me?!" with a big grin on
his face.

But as for the rest of us, maybe we thought Bono or Larry or whomever
was hot when we first got into the band, but not really beyond that.
At least not for me. I mean, I've met Ali - Bono's introduced me to
their kids and he's told me funny stories about Eve in particular. I
think what I'm jealous of Ali for is her money! LOL :-D

Yeah, when I was 14 and first got into U2 I thought Unforgettable-
Fire-Haircut-Bono was a hottie. And when I was 15, I stared wide-
eyed at the screen during "Bad" in Rattle & Hum. But that's about
where my "crush" ended - eleven years back! I can honestly say that
I've never felt physically attracted to him in any of the times that
I've spent talking to him, which as I've said has been dozens of
times. HE'S A NICE PERSON and AMAZINGLY FUCKINGLY TALENTED and I'm
drawn to the band, I'm drawn to Bono because he's nice to me - but
not because I want to shag any of them! Anyone who follows U2
because s/he wants to shag any of them is in for a lonely tour! I do
it because it's FUN!! There's an amazing sense of comraderie can be
built between people in the time spent waiting for the band.

And here's perhaps the best example of all about the crush situation:
Bono chose me to dance with him for Velvet Dress in Seattle and I
showed him the hand and told him "No thank you." And I'm not the
first of my group of friends to have done that to him! Another told
him "No" for Miami one night at Giants Stadium.

I tried to pass on the opportunity to the friend I spoke of earlier
who has the big-ass crush on him. But just as this was all occuring
Pete the Greek (head-rigger) got up onstage in a dress and a wig
instead (as a gag, unbeknownst to Bono). And that turned out to be a
great moment for the comedy inherent in it. (Pete grabbed a shocked
Bono's buns!)

>>From what I've seen on Wire there hasn't really been any guys
following the band to the extent that *some* of these gals have.<<

That's because they just don't post. I could name you several that I
knew all along the tour. In fact, one went to 47 shows (whereas I
went to 23).

>>Of course I'll be branded as something for these comments.<<

Thoughtful and seeking a rational explanation is what I'd brand you.

>>Yet, if U2 were female who looked like <insert 4 babes here>, I
might be doing the same.<<

LOL!! :-D

>>I'm sure there are guys who follow around the Spice Girls
to no end. At the same time, some of the scariest "crushes" of
celebs tend to be men<<

Creepy, yes.

>>(the guy who claimed "Exit" aided him in killing Rebecca Shaeffer(?
)<<

Robert Bardo, may he rot in hell.

>>It cuts both ways with the sexes.<<

Ah, don't forget "Fatal Attraction." We girls can be scary sometimes
too. LOL
