ABSOLUTELY right!

i also got to know u2 through live-aid! and after watching live-aid for approx. 13 hours all i could remember next day was "that beautiful guy" jumping down into the audience and dancing with a girl...

don't shoot me now, please, for the next few years i really desperately tried to find out who that band was - NO F... BODY knew them - ahem - and i forgot the name (13 hours of watching TV is NOT HEALTHY!!! and even a short name like u2 can be "burnt" away...). it was about 1990 when i read about u2's appearance on live-aid, and bono jumping down into the audience... "BINGO" i couldn't believe that i already was a fan of that band, i was looking for so desperately...

sorry, just wanted to share this with my fellow-fans...

Not to mention Australia ;). I think its pretty safe to say that U2
had a very loyal, and respectable amount of fans world wide pre Live Aid
but were still very much an "underground" band. Live Aid changed that,
especially in countries *outside* Europe.
