Wirelings,
I *knew* we were a musically open-minded bunch, at least most of us. . .
:-)
Judging from the number of people who've listed Jeff Buckley in their
Top 10 of the 90s, I'd guess that it was due in part to U2 paying tribute
to Jeff during some of last summer's gigs. I first heard Jeff's
breathtaking cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' on the PopInvasion at
KROQ and was blown away by it. I ran out to get Grace and I've been a fan
since. . . After hearing Cohen's original and Bono's version, I have to
admit that Jeff's is the one - just him and an acoustic guitar and it
doesn't get any better (now, if Bono were to version similar to that, it'd
be a tough call. . . )
I'm wondering what other groups we fans have discovered by way of U2?
Personnally, I become interested in hearing Leonard Cohen after
reading that Bono had sung 'Tower of Song' at Irish Bill Graham's funeral
mass.
Billie Holliday I'd already gotten a taste for (and is currently on my
'music to make love by' list). . . .
Who else? Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, BB King. . . Oh, The Pogues!
(Dirty Old Town and many more), Woody Guthrie, Frank Sinatra. . . ABBA? :-)
Bob Marley?
okay, so share your 'I found (fill in the blank) because of U2'
stories
Teresa in Richmond
listening to 'Sweet Fire of Love' as we speak. . .
