My rant against the Sweetest Thing

Last night I was out drinking with a few friends and one of them
mentioned how happy I must have been to hear the new single. I
surprised all when I went on a small tirade against the song...being the
known U2 fanatic it shocked all my friends...

My problem is this...I fell in love with the Sweetest Thing when I first
bought the single back in '87 on vinyl. I then moved to cassettes and
bought the cassette so I could play it over and over in the car...I love
the song, I really do, and I like the new version too...

My problem is the song became sort of a special song for me. One I
shared with a past girlfriend, one that I planned on having played when
I get married, but now it isn't quite so special anymore. The whole
world is jumping on the Sweetest Thing bandwagon. When the whole world
knows about it, and you can't turn on the radio without hearing it, it
loses that special "magical" quality it once held for me.

Now it is nice that people are finally sharing in the song, and
appreciating it. Many fans will admit we always knew it could be a hit.
It's just hard for me to hear a song that has been my hidden treasure
for so long becoming so big.

Well I just thought I would rant a little bit more...the b-sides are out
there. We must learn to share and all of that, even if it will take
some adjustment.
