U2 vs. REM on WHFS

Hello, Wireland...

I haven't posted to Wire or read it in ages, so I'm not sure if anyone has
posted about the contest that DC's WHFS 99.1 is having this weekend. They're
having this "U2 vs. REM" contest this weekend. The commercials are pretty
funny.... They talk about how in the 80's it was always U2 vs. REM. Both
were four-piece bands, both sang about war, religion, etc. And now in the
90's, they're older, fatter, and slower <g>.... and they both have new
releases. And all this weekend, whenever you hear an REM or a U2 song, if
you're the 9th caller you will win copies of both of their impending releases
before they hit the stores.

And guess what? I just won. :) Yay!! I talked to the DJ for quite some time.
He's from Belfast, so of course we talked a lot about U2. I told him I was a
big U2 fan and went to 20 Popmart shows, including the last two shows in
Africa. He couldn't believe it! He said he wished he could record this, but
he didn't have any tape handy. :P We chatted for quite some time about U2,
Ireland, and even my field of study in graduate school (oddly enough, he was
quite familiar with it and recommended some schools in Ireland if I was
interested in studying abroad). After we finally finished talking, he came on
the air and congratulated me and said something about how I went to 20 U2
concerts, etc. This is pretty cool. :) I never win anything!

So for all of you in the DC/MD/VA metropolitan area, listen to HFS this
weekend! They play an REM/U2 song pretty much every hour, so you have a good
shot of getting a copy of the "Best of" CD a little early. Good luck!

Sandra
