Bono to Write for "Bible"

World Entertainment News Network
24-OCT-98

(OCT. 24) WENN/P - BONO TO WRITE FOR "BIBLE" U2 star
BONO is to write for a controversial publishing house which is
currently being boycotted by Christian fundamentalists. The
DESIRE singer has agreed to write the introduction to the
Book of Psalms as part of a 12-book edition of the Bible. And the
singer has described the Book of Psalms as "the original blues."

He says the U2 song 40 was actually based on Psalm 40. But
Christians protested after reading what some people had written
in their introduction and Edinburgh publishers Canongate have
been threatened with prosecution for blasphemy.

A spokesman for Canongate says, "We have no idea what
Bono will write but we imagine it will be good." The star is to be
paid $1,440 (=9C900) for his 1,500-word introduction and is
expected to have it finished soon.

>From ET Online:

Why was now the perfect time for rock supergroup
U2 to release a greatest hits compilation? While
shooting the video for the album's single, "The
Sweetest Thing," band members BONO, THE EDGE,
ADAM CLAYTON and LARRY MULLEN JR. discuss
how they assembled this anticipated collection.

Question: Why is now a good time for U2 to release this
collection?

Bono: We have to accept the fact that
there's people out there that aren't familiar
with our work in the eighties. There's a lot of
people who are into U2 that came into U2 on
"Achtung Baby" and "Zooropa." There's
something that really rings true about these
songs and it's kind of ecstatic music. That's
how I look at it. It's so high... in a good way
as in uplifting.

Larry Mullen Jr.: The whole idea behind doing this greatest
hits; and it's something that we've wanted to do for a couple of
years, just to clear out. Every band does a greatest hits
normally after two or three years. We waited a long time and it
just feels right. It's the right time for us to do this.

Question: Would you call this project a musical autobiography?

The Edge: It's not really an autobiography.
It's more just little, tiny polaroids. Just
moments captured down through that ten
year period that have remained fresh and
special and unique.

Question: How did you choose what to include?

The Edge: There's about fifteen moments that crystalized.
Fifteen songs that have, ten years later, actually stood the
test of time.

>From Derek Mark McCallister:

Just to let you know as far as I know the famous U2 wall beside
Windmill lane Studios is being knocked down on Sunday. On tv the
other night their was an advert for 2tv a music program presented
by Dave Fanning who is also a close friend of the band. He went on
to say that this Sundays programme will be coming from Windmill
lane where the studios are located as the large wall will be
knocked down where thousands of U2 pilgrims from all over the world
have signed their names with messages to the band. If this is true
then it is fairly shit on behalf of U2 to let this go ahead as this
is the equivalent of Dublins honour to U2. It is very impressive
approx 150 metres long and about 5 meters high with some amazing
graffiti and notes on the wall along with many thousands if paper
notes stuffed into cracks and holes in the wall.If I will let you
know in next weeks news what exactly is going on.
