I don't know if this is an international thing or not, but here in
Australia the past week has been Breast Cancer Awareness Week.
It has been brought to prominence due to the recent revelations by
famous Australian women speaking out and sharing their battles with
breast cancer. This cancer kills many women every year and most
recently claimed the life of Linda McCartney.
In Australia, there is this fundraising thing which has been launched.
It is the "Pink Ribbon Signature Bear Auction". This is an online
auction and all money raised goes towards research.
For those of you not familiar with a signature bear, it is basically a
teddy bear with no fur - it is made of material which can easily be
written on and kept as a special momento.
Now, why put this on Wire? Because Bono and Edge signed one of these
bears. It is called The Star Signature Bear and has the signatures of
Bono, The Edge, Jack Nicholson, Kevin Costner Antonio Banderas, Billy
Joel. There is also a Seinfeld Bear (which is apparently really rare
because he doesn't usually sign autographs).
These two bears, plus others of Aussie interest, are available for
