Happy Anniversary Aaron!
I've been a wireling on and off for about 4 years now. Ever since I
came to the University of Toronto, I've spent sometime in the computer
labs just reading the latest news. It is a great place I think. Now
I do most of my reading at work but when I have time I can go through
the whole thing taking the time to read even the long ones that most
days I skip if it starts off slow. The personal posts are always
interesting. So many stories out there- How did we get here...how'd
you get here? I can't even remember how I first heard about the Wire.
I mostly stay away from posting (affectionately know as a lurker I
guess) but sometimes I jump in to add my two cents, or as someone
recently put $0.2(they had ten times the amount of stuff that I had to
say). It has become part of all our lives in someway if you think
about it. It even has somekind of social organization, we know who
people are, we miss them if we haven't heard from them, some are
considered leaders (as far as knowledge and information goes) and all
other opinions are welcome. Part of our lives for sure, some more
than others ofcourse but for the most part we're all told that we're
U2 crazy by our friends but when we come here we're no weirder than
the next wireling. Mostly good times as far as I can remember but I
guess everyone has their own pet peeves...but I'll stick to the best
of!
Remembering how things used to be always amuses me a bit.
I remember when...
-The Edge was rumoured to frequent Wire
(I never knew if this was true or not)
-all we could talk about was if OS1 was good or not.
(I think everyone is now in somewhat of an aggreement on the issue)
-someone planned Stay Day...everyone requesting Stay on MTV
(4 days until stayday...I don't even get MTV)
-a fellow wireling gave my brother a lift to Montreal to meet me for
the show.
(a year ago Monday, hey Trevor, you like this next one)
-Aingeal was a mystery
(I think she still is)
-I saw for the first time another University of Toronto student on
Wire.
(I think J.Lee left about 3-4 months ago)
-I thought I was the only NICO wireling!
(Hi Nico, its NICO.)
-martyn with a 'Y', made his first post.
(haven't heard from him in a while)
It is cool to see people come and go. It is great to see all parts of
the world involved from Latvia to Cuba to Uruguay. It's amazing to
feel the excitement of a new album, of the show in your City days
away, of the latest broadcast over the radio. I love all angles of
the wire and that's what keeps me coming back, that's what has me
addicted and that's why I thank you all for contributing in someway to
this...whatever this is.
NICO.
