.... i have attempted to find people on this list to trade with..
i am interested in concert videos.. as anyone of u who has
been reading my postings knows...
well the following person.. who lives in south africa
[email protected] .. emailed me probably as a result
of this list.. and asked me if i was interested in trading with
him.. i accepted but warned him that if his system was
not compatible with mine that he would be wasting his time..
well... he seems to be able to play usa tapes.. or ntsc as
they are known... but can only record in pal or secam...
which can not be used by people here.. unless u have a
specific machine designed for such a purpose.. i explained
that this isnt the case with me.. i dont have that ability..
and he seemed to have understood... well.. he sent the
tape on oct 6th.. and i got it yesterday.. and immediately
emailed him to tell him i got it.. he ordered a tape in return
of course pending that i would be able to use the one he
sent me... of course... and i agreed.. as i do.. when i
make trades.. however.. i found that upon trying to play
the tape that either... nothing was on the tape.. or..
that it was indeed recorded in a format that i cant use..
most likely the latter.. and.. it is common knowledge
atleast among most video fans.. that 180 tapes are not
a good idea... for many reasons that i wont go into here..
since the tape he was sending me was either 120 or just
over.. it was sort of understood that he would use either
a 120 or even gasp a 160... well.. no.. he decided to use
a 180.. not a good idea.. ever...
this should be a pointer to those out there among u.. who
would even think that its ok to use such a tape..
dont do it!!!! use two 120s.. or if u have to.. a 160..
but dont use tdk ... since they will eventually jam and
u cant take apart a tdk tape to repair it.. there are no
screws like maxell... well anyway...
i explained that to send the tape back would be ok if he
wished to send the postage to me to do so... i figure
if i have to put out the money out of pocket.. i should
get something for it.. and in this case.. i wouldnt be...
i dont have the money to send people back tapes
that they understood i may not be able to use.. and
all this was explained to him ahead of his shipping...
he chose to accept responsibility regardless and i was
willing to wait for the tape.. which got to me over 3 weeks
later... i neglected to mention that i got several emails
from this person demanding an explanation for why he
hasnt gotten any tapes from me... he actually didnt believe
that i never got the tape.. til i finally did... very accusational..
well.. i again tried to explain to him that for him to buy a new
blank would cost less than for me to ship his tape back to
him.. i cant use the blank tape for two reasons.. one .. i
have no use in a 180 min tape.. and two.. its a pal secam
formatted tape.. and wont lend itself to use in my machine
so it does me no good unless i wish to hold onto it to send
to someone else who is overseas.. as a trade...
altho i still dont have the show.. i have since arranged a trade
with someone on this list.. i hope.. for the same show..
albeit imperfect sound... but atleast in a format that i can
view...
i suppose my main purpose for writing this letter to the list..
is to warn others attempting to deal with [email protected]
that they should be careful and leary of him...
he has informed me that he plans on making several postings
about me.. and the first place i was thinking such postings
would take place would be on this newsletter... so i wanted
to beat the jerk to the punch and make sure that his accusations
were understood.. and the defense was made ahead of time..
no.. i dont feel that he should send me back the money for the
postage to return the tape to him.. but i did ask him to include
return postage when he shipped the tape to me in case just
such a situation occurred... which i expected.. and foresaw..
he actually told me that he had such a machine that he was
able to record in ntsc format and that he cant see why i would
have any problem... well... i did..

now.. if anyone out there wants to trade concert videos...
please dont hesitate to email me privately.. but .. please
keep in mind.. i can only use ntsc videos..
does anyone need a copy of johanesburg south africa
march 21 1998 ?? if so.. and u have something i need and
can make it in ntsc mode... please let me know.. if u wish
to arrange a trade.. with me.. i will work it out with u..

then if [email protected] wants to.. he can order
something from me.. and maybe i can work it out with him
so that we will all be happy... but i will not put out postage
to return a tape to someone on the other side of the planet
that i cant use.. i cant do that..
