I did a search on the web for "Holy Joe" and I arrived at an
interesting site that has a story about a devout Christian soldier who is
tormented during the Vietnam War. Here is a synopsis of the story which I
copied from the site: http://www.ungh.com/vx/chick/holyjoe.html
If this is common knowledge or has been posted before please excuse me.

Preceeding the synopsis below is a small comic which summarizes the story.

Set during the Vietnam conflict, this follows the trials of a Christian
soldier who is tormented endlessly by his fellows, one big fat sergeant in
particular. While praying at his bunk in boot camp, "Joe" (the only name
we are ever given for him) is pelted with boots, which he shines all night
and returns to their owners. As a reward, he is given a week's K.P.,
during which he drives the cook nuts by working harder than anyone else
and singing incessantly.

"Joe" is sent to a "head shrinker," who refuses to take him off "Sarge's"
hands, giving some "psychological mumbo-jumbo" reason while actually
thinking to himself "Good grief! What if what that kid told me was true?"

While on maneuvers, "Joe" tells Henderson, a fellow grunt, that God is
taping everything he does, to which Henderson replies "If that's the case,
my goose is cooked!" This gives "Joe" and opportunity to acquaint
Henderson with the facts of the gospel.

On the way to Vietnam, "Sarge" threatens "Joe" in no uncertain terms,
telling him that he's going to die if he doesn't knock off the religious
stuff. Once there, "Sarge" volunteers him for a dangerous mission that
he's not trained for, and he is killed. "Sarge" and Henderson discover the
body, and "Sarge" is transfixed by the peaceful look on "Joe's" face.
Henderson begins to flip out, then realizes that they are surrounded, and
screams at "Sarge" to run. "Sarge" is, however busy praying for "This
Savior that Holy Joe spoke of." Henderson and "Sarge" are quickly
surrounded by NVA and killed.

Henderson and "Sarge's" naked ghost rise from their bodies, and Henderson
protests that he "lived a real good life." They are taken to the judgement
seat, where Henderson goes through mini-This Was Your Life! He is thrown
in the lake of fire. "Sarge" is shown the clip of himself praying and told
"That act of faith--put your name in the Book of Life!" He enters into the
joy of his Lord.
