Why U2?

So U2's come out with a Best of CD. And as many postings lately have pointed
out, it's for the fans, but just because we're U2 fans doesn't make us all the
same. People got into U2 for so many different reasons. Some recent postings
make me think that some people out there seem to have gotten into U2 just
because they're popular or because of the "collectability" of their releases or
because their albums might be worth something some day (as in money). Maybe
it's time to stop talking about that kind of stuff and get back to the band.
After all, they in some way brought us all here in the first place. So, why did
everyone get into U2? I need some reassurance here that it wasn't just because
of some numbers on a CD. (I KNOW it's not everyone, okay!) Everyone must have a
story, some reason. Good time to think of it now, I think now that a GH has
made us all feel at least a little nostalgic. So why am I a U2 fanatic?

They mean something. This band has SOUL. They may enjoy making their money (who
wouldn't?!?!?!?!), but a big part of all they do is LOVE. Bono couldn't sing
that way and not mean it one little bit. I LOVE that man! Though he ISN'T God,
nor is he infalliable, he's an amazing person and the heart and soul of the
band. To me, U2 is a band made up of an angel and three amazing men (please,
don't flame me Edgelings, Larry Lovers, and Adam Fans! It's my opinion). U2 has
reached out and touched the world with heart and soul, daring to do the
unpopular thing and succeeding in the process. They made caring cool again.
Changed the music scene forever, added some responsibility and conscience to
the 80's and on. They were so DIFFERENT. (Think of what else was on the radio
when the JT came out! Yikes!) POP won me over to fanaticism, just because I
heard their music with new ears. Hitting college, I think I was primed for
addiction. Though, I think it had been building for years. They are something
that makes me BELIEVE again and I love them for it. I missed PopMart, that's
my confession. I hope they and all of you forgive me, though I won't readily
forgive myself. In short, their music has dared to change the world... and they
risked a lot doing it, standing up for what they believed in.

That's why I love U2. Having such an amazing band makes me wonder what all the
chaos here lately has all been about. Now, would Bono like it if we kept
fighting over such PETTY things? I don't think so, though I don't know him.
Time to get back to the reason why we're all here Wire. A GH is supposed to
make you a little nostalgic and that's what this post is all about. Anybody
have any other memories to share? Please share that and not another post about
the GH, bootleggers, etc ETC ET CETERA!!!

Get back into U2!

Rose
