the impact of "Modsavage" on wire

my take is that wire does not get much negative flack about mr.
modsavage (patrick) only because the majority who do not care for his
popularity contests simply scroll past posts that relate to him, as I
have done until now. i will not totally bash him, as the last thing
that i want to do is to fuel any thread that involves that name. but i
must mention that he is not "all that". a while ago, i wrote him asking
for a cd copy of a popmart show. i even offered to send money to the
guy who "gives things away for free". no go. i offered to trade some
rarities, and he said (in his less-than-stellar grammar) that he "didn't
need" any of my stuff. end of the deal, no show for me.

in some way, i think modsavage should just run his own mailing list. if
he wants the world to know what his favorite concert moment or band icon
is, fine. more power to him. but share it with us in an intellectual
way, instead of constantly cluttering our mailboxes with these unwanted
contests. i guess i'm just scratching my head trying to figure out why
this person has become some sort of saint here on wire. he came out of
no where only this year, and really has not added any insightful
conversation on the band. perhaps he has simply succeeded at buying his
"friends" with his excess of time and money. his brand of "generosity"
could never win me over.

a part of my arguement is based on the sad fact that this is what wire
has become these days. one year ago during the tour we didn't have a
"modsavage" around, and it was kinda fun to log onto wire. where is the
wire of old? gone. modsavage is just another person, no better or
worse than the next person. but yet his name is brought up in blind
praise 10 times a day, and it gets old. people actually tell us: "all
U2 fans should be like modsavage", without ever having met the guy!
that makes me sick. and trust me when i say that it is in no way a sign
of jealousy!

without condemning him as some bad person, i just wish that if somebody
is receiving such praise, that they be worthy of it - and not too many
people are, certainly not him. maybe someday we will hear some actual
input on the band from him.

thanks for the cd, patrick!
