u2's direction...my wishful thinking

Being a new era u2 fan and all most of you guys would expect me to want them
to continue in the irony electonica expirementation and all, but I don't
really want them to. Don't get me wrong, I really love the music that came
out of it, but I also am going to say that if this 'joy' thing is where they
want to carry it next, and they succeed than I will be very a very happy
camper as well. U2 seems to work in eras and triologies, and I'm pretty sure
they've taken the zoo triology as far as it should go without losing the soul
and emotion that they have in their music.
I just think that Bono is a great songwriter and the that band is an
awesome group of musicians and that if they take it in more of a direct
songwriting fashion then they could follow in the direction of classic
songwriters like Dylan and Willie Nelson. To me u2s appeal ultimately lie in
the Songs anyway. Even in the distortion drenched, bleep enhanced albums like
ab and pop, what I notice most is the underlying song and awesome lyrics in
the albums. If u2 have tired of subverting their sound than power to
them....I think that the music world might be ready to hear things without
irony anyway, and since I admit I DO think of u2 as a message band to a
certain extent, to me anything that gets the power in their music over to
others is a cool thing.
So to end this rambling post...the joy thing sounds pretty cool to me.
I'll admit I'm curious just what the source of "joy" will be...but I guess
that is another topic...

in the name of hope, faith, peace, love and u2
