U2 and drugs

 hello again,

i'd just like to throw some kindling onto the whole bono on cocaine fire.
now, to anyone out there who nearly swallows there tongue in disbelief at
the thought of any of the band dabbling in drug use - just be rational and
look at the position that U2 are in: in their world of after show parties,
the ownership of a nightclub and the many and varied exclusive soirees they
attend, there is anything and everything that they could possibly desire at
their disposal if they so choose. i think that that's a pretty safe
assumption to make about their situation when you compare it to any local
music scene and do some quick calculations. (U2=lots more talent=lots more
money=equals lots more recreational options) it's pretty evident that U2
are a band of open mind, and i think the chances of them having lead the
rockstar lifestyle for 20 and never experimented and/or continued
controlled usage of some kind of substance are slim to none. it is entirely
possible to take drugs in a way that is safe and will not infringe on your
social/professional/domestic life. it is widely known that bono (and larry
and edge and until recent years, adam) drinks like a tank, but noone seems
to want to reprimand him for this. i guess that has a lot to do with the
social acceptance of alcohol. anyhoo, if bono was doing lines of coke on
the joshua tree tour, it would explain some of his longer, more irrelevant
stage ramblings.
i don't want to jump to any conclusions and say that the initial report was
100% true, but it's definitely possible. i was thinking as i stood beofre
the stage at popmart, that i bet bono still suffers from incredible nerves
before going onstage. he has to get up there every night and deliver
infront of 50000 fans. he as to keep up an incredible energy level for 2
and half hours. there may be some nights when he feels like an extra kick,
we don't know, we'd just prefer to think not. also, when asked about it,
bono has never flat denied anything. he has, however said the following:

" well, ah, the colours are generally bright enough for me most of the
time as it is..."

 and -

" i'm not going to comment on it either way. if i want to get my blood
transfused, i can afford to. someone who ends up an addict after taking
cues from rock stars cannot afford to do that."

in addition to this, after adam missed the sydney gig, it was widely
speculated here that it was more than booze that gave him that mother of a
hangover, and that is something that has been reported in the years since.
(also, does anyone know what this exerpt from the flanagan book alludes to
- "larry isn't around. he has taken a seasonal powder"?)

so, there will probably never be proof positive either way until one of us
meets bono at a club and he says "hey, take a photo of me shooting this
into my arm and add it to your web page!!" it makes no difference in the
scheme of things. u2 make beautiful music, u2 are incredible live and when
i spoke to him, bono was a perfect gentleman. so none of my dreams are
crushed by the possibility that u2 are not absolutely clean living.

 elmo.

p.s. jamie lee curtis is not a hermaphrodite. i know that now. thank you.
