Bono & drugs

I'm sorry to drag this out, but no one appears to remember the
following; I, unfortunately, seem to have a photographic memory!:

While I seriously doubt Bono does hard drugs, he does/has smoked pot.
Apparently no one remembers the Rolling Stone article from October 1,
1992, which reads "...Bono [is] winding down back in Stockholm with a
postshow snack of white wine and Swedish hash in a cafe."

Bill Flanagan's book also has a few references to drugs, i.e. when sleep
deprivation causes Bono and Flanagan to concoct a plan: "I say we go to
Hong Kong. Bono says no, Thailand. He's never taken LSD, I've never
taken LSD -- we shold go to the jungles of Thailand and take LSD for the
first time." Another band member is mentioned in Chapter 39, when Bono
tells a story about Edge taking mushrooms.

So, by literal interpretation the band does not appear to be squeaky
clean. However, while I can't stand the stuff, I consider pot a lot less
harmful than alcohol, so it doesn't really constitute drug use in my
mind. I fervently hope and believe that this is the extent of drug use
in the band. Bono has always been pretty candid about his life and
speaks out so vociferously against hard drugs that I find it hard to
believe the man could be a hypocrite. I really, really don't want it to
be true!
