Emil saith:

<<i think elmo was only referring to the irrelevant ramblings of the
JT/R&H period.>>

I know - I was just joshin', though that may not have come across in
*my* drug-induced (caffiene), sleep-deprived state. If I was poking fun
at anyone, it was the incredibly bright, respectable, and talented wee
fuzzy man with the lemon.

<<that's not to say that he wasn't occasionally drug-influenced pre-JT,
though. who really knows?>>

I *REALLY* didn't mean to open up that can and have all those worms rear
their ugly heads. (Watch me mix that metaphor!)

<<the drug issue aside, why DID his stagetalk seem (to me at least) to
all of a sudden become much more coherent and self-confident during
zootv?>>

A very plausible explanation is that he was much more accustomed to fame
and making speeches from stage, he had a character (or set of
characters) to play - you can almost always be more eloquent behind a
mask 'cause you're less afraid, and also that the Zoo shows were a lot
more structured. I'm more willing to believe this than "Bono put the
pipe down" because if he *had* had such a problem that it noticeably
affected a significant quantity of his public experiences, I'm pretty
sure that "rumors" of this behavior would be a lot more prevalent.

Sorry if I've come off as snippy again.
