JOY album ...yeah right!

U2 once said that they didn't like the 70's rehash of grunge that they
see in most garage bands and that they would like to do their own
version on rocking. So we all anticipated a wild and wooly guitar
heavy album like War. Instead we got loops, samplings, synths and
sequencers to enhance U2's music. The most ironic thing of course was
it's title - Pop. The interview when they said they'll rock was early
on the recording process. In the end, Bono tried to justify by saying
"it still is a rock'n'roll record isn't it" or "rock'n' roll was
originally dance music."

What I'm trying to say is that what we may anticipate about a "joy"
album may be totally different than what will come out. Maybe U2
might end up with their saddest album to date. Or the album will have
more minor chords and sad chords but with happy lyrics. How will Bono
weasel his way our to explain this time ..."umhmmm, isn't it only when
you feel sadness that you are brought to joy" or lines to that extent.

We'll never know what will coem next. The only thing certian is that
all this Joy specualtion is too early to make into solid basis for
predicting what the new album will be like.

Cheers,

J
