Why I love and respect U2: A Clarification

I wanted to clarify something I wrote in my earlier post.

"If I were to find out that songs like Bad and Running to Stand Still were
just songs and Bono chose to live his life contrary to what he's saying in
these songs, then the songs mean nothing and all of that passion is
meaningless"

What I meant wasn't that if I found out Bono had done drugs on a regular basis
I would find no meaning in their music anymore and would call them phonies and
hate them. What I meant was they are so passionate about what they say and
they are such strong believers and are so incapable of doing anything less
than speaking the truth, that I find it very hard to believe that they are
guilty of the sort of hypocrisy being a drug adict would require. There is no
way you can stage that kind of passion or sell that kind of truth for profit
and nothing else. I love Bono because album after album and concert after
concert he is willing to get up on the stage and bare his soul, expose his
emotional wounds and his fears and all he asks in return is 1)that we make an
effort to understand, 2) that he be able to have a communion with others who
are drawn to U2's music because they feel the same, 3) that we learn a little
compassion for our brothers and sisters and 4) that we try to love as much as
we can. This is not a man who looks to drugs for a way out. He looks within
himself and to God for the answers and he tries to share them with us.
I feel sorry for the people out there who just don't get it.

"If God Will Send His Angels, We sure could use them here right now..."
