Bono & Drugs

Oh, come on! J, you're arguments for Bono's so-called drug
addiction are ridiculous. I don't feel like getting to in depth,
but please. "Running to Stand Still" is a song widely known for
its topic: heroin addiction. This doesn't mean BONO is heroin
addicted. The "seven towers" line refers to a specific place near
Bono's hometown; it could very easily be about drugs running
rampant close to home.

Also, the line in "One"-- "did I leave a bad taste in your mouth?"
is referring to oral sex. Or kissing, at least. It's a love song.
It's a song about a lot of things, really, but not necessarily
about drugs. AB is a record with very sexual themes running
through it (ie "You can swallow, or you can spit, you can throw it
up, or choke on it" from Acrobat), so the idea that a line in "One"
could also be a reference to oral sex is not unfounded. If you've
read "U2: at the End of the World" by Bill Flannigan, the author
deals with this idea as well.

Writers are not entirely selfish people. It is possible to write
from the perspective of another person, see. As in "Running to
Stand Still". Also, the term "higher" can be a metaphor for
anything...the high feeling you get when you're in love, making
love, etc.

ai ai ai. Guys, Bono is not on drugs. Repeat. Not on drugs. He
may be a little bit of a drinker (a large bit of a drinker; hehe),
but he's Irish. So, uh...so there.

Callie
