Mr. Macphisto rules writes:

>um, I never thouth that the line in "One" saying leave
>a bad taste in your mouth has ANY sexual connotations.
>I always thouth it simply meant something along the
>lines of, "did I disgust you" (personality wise) or maybe
>"did I do something you didn't like" or something along
>those lines.

Well, I personally think that Bono is a master of the double entendre, that
is, the double meaning lyric. And I do think that this is definitely one of
those double entendre lyrical phrases of his. You only have to watch his
face when he says that line in the "One" video (where he is alone in the
bar) to catch how he intends for it to have a double meaning. I think that
this ability to take phrases and words and make them have more than one
meaning, depending upon the listener or perhaps the mood of the listener at
that particular moment is one of his greatest gifts. One person, like Mr.
Macphisto gets no sexual connotations from that line, another might have
gotten a sexual connotation right off the bat and still others might hear
the sexual connotation one time, and not the next. AND all this wrapped up
in a song that says we are one but not the same.....now that's a lyrical
genius. Anybody out there have any other examples of this in Bono's lyrics?
I'm too busy to look right now! ;o)
