>From Jam!:

Naomi Campbell charged with assault in Toronto

By CRAIG WONG -- The Canadian Press

TORONTO (CP) -- Supermodel Naomi Campbell was charged
with assault Friday in an alleged attack on her former personal
assistant.

The alleged beating took place while Campbell was in Toronto
filming a movie in September, police said.

The charge was laid after the 39-year-old assistant complained
to police that she was assaulted at the city's posh Four
Season's Hotel.

Campbell was in Toronto on Friday to face the charges. She was
accompanied by her lawyer, famed Canadian attorney Brian
Greenspan, police said in a news release.

She was released on her own recognizance and will appear in
court on Friday, Dec. 11.

Georgina Galanis, the former assistant, has also filed a
multimillion-dollar lawsuit against the British catwalker in the
United States.

In a suit filed in September in Manhattan's State Supreme
Court, Galanis claimed that Campbell slapped and punched
her, hit her on the head with a phone and threatened to throw
her from a moving car during the Toronto shoot of Prisoner of
Love.

Galanis worked for the temperamental model for all of nine
days, but says that was enough time to leave her with severe
physical injuries and mental distress.

She alleges Campbell "inflicted severe emotional distress"
by, among other things, "threatening to have her deported,"
"verbally abusing in an outrageous manner on multiple
occasions," and "damaging her clothes."

Over the next two days, Galanis claims the leggy beauty
"wilfully, wantonly, maliciously, recklessly, and negligently
battered" her.

The ex-secretary also claims that Campbell never paid her
for the week she put in, and says she's owed $1,416.54 US.
She's also seeking $100 for "personal property," specifically
the clothes she says the model damaged.

Galanis is reportedly asking for $1 million US in
compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive damages.

A representative for Campbell has denied the allegations.

Campbell is well-known for her troubles off the runway. She
reportedly overdosed after a messy breakup from her Spanish
boyfriend Joaquin Cortes and is renowned for her backstage
tantrums.

U.K. Dance Acts Unite For Charity CD

A double-CD set benefiting victims of Hurricane Mitch, "Protection," is
due Jan. 18 in the U.K. on the ELF label of charity Earth Love Fund.
Billboard Bulletin reports that included on the set are new remixes of
Massive Attack's "Protection" and Roni Size's "Brown Paper Bag." In
addition, U2, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, and Dreadzone have donated
tracks royalty-free. The record will be supplied at cost by PolyGram
and distributed by Pinnacle.

There's a long article discussing the upcomping Polygram
Universal deal at Addicted To Noise/SonicNet . It's definately
worth the read, but much too long to include here. The major U2
content is that it seems to support my earlier note that U2 is
not "changing" labels, but is switching labels within the
restructured larger company.

The article can be found at:

(Prarit's note: To be honest, I'd like to see U2 with Trimble and
Hume! -- but U2 by themselves would be pretty narly :) )

Kimberly McDaniel sent a letter to THe Charlie Rose show and
recieved the following response.

Dear Kimberly,

Thank you for your letter. I have printed out your letter for
Charlie and >forwarded your suggestions to a producer.
U2 would be excellent guests. Thanks again for writing and
for watching as we try to bring the most interesting guests to
the roundtable.

City of Angels: Best Selling Release of '98

BURBANK, Calif., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The smash Warner
/Reprise Records soundtrack, ``Music From The Motion Picture
City of Angels,'' with sales approaching over six million worldwide,
has emerged as the best selling album to have been released in
the United States in calendar year 1998. The album beat out such
heavyweight contenders as the Beastie Boys, ``Armageddon,''
N-Sync and Lauryn Hill.

``Music From The Motion Picture City of Angels'' features the hit
songs ``Uninvited'' by Alanis Morissette and ``Iris'' by the Goo Goo
Dolls, 1998's Number One Most-Played Single on Top 40 radio
(also heard on the group's new Warner Bros. Records release,
``Dizzy Up The Girl''). Additionally, the album contains the track
``Angel,'' by Sarah McLachlan, which is also available on the artist's
Arista Records release, ``Surfacing.''

Other key tracks on ``Music From The Motion Picture City of Angels''
include selections from Peter Gabriel, Paula Cole, U2, Jude, Eric
Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and more.

In other ``City of Angels'' news, the album has been nominated in
the Favorite Soundtrack category for the upcoming American Music
Awards, which will be aired Monday, January 11th, 1999 on ABC
Television.

Commenting on the phenomenal success of ``Music From The
Motion Picture City of Angels,'' Reprise Records President Howie
Klein remarked, ``At a time when music and movie tie-ins are as
much marketing events as creative collaborations, it's gratifying to
see an album which not only enhanced the cinematic experience
but went on to become a success in purely musical terms as well.
'City of Angels' attracted great talent and the result is a great album.''
