U2....heavy metal??!

Most of my friends, including myself, are hug fans of rock and heavy
metal type music. But when I told my friends that my favorite band was
U2, they could not believe it. But when I played a few of their songs,
they admitted they were wrong and actually became huge fans, too. Most
of my and my friends other CD's are Hard Core or Metal music. Wondering
where I'm going with this???????????
I'm wondering what is it about U2 that appeals to fans of harder rock?
Any theories??????
