Bowie/Bono connection

I'm actually enjoying this whole "Legends" week on VH-1 (as much as their
programming info is driving some folks nuts) and wondered if anyone caught
the Bowie one. I was really struck by all the similar themes and endeavors
between Bono and Bowie (messing around w/multi-media, taking on characters,
and then obvious stuff like the Hansa studios and Berlin).

I know Gavin Friday has spoken openly of Bowie's influence on his career
and art, but does anyone know if Bono has ever discussed this? Just
curious. I've always been fascinated by how artists influence one another.

Before Bowie there was a Springsteen "Legends". Over on his mailing list
they're debating who should introduce Bruce for the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame, and one of the names that keeps popping up is Bono. In some ways Bono
seems at the crossroads of these two artists: sincere, political and
heartfelt like Bruce, yet embracing the theatrical and artsiness of Bowie.

What do others think?
